What's New in Food?
Balance. We've heard that before but who's listening. Probably the
easiest way to stick to a healthy diet is keep your metabolism steady.

Well, how do you do
that?
You probably have a pretty good idea when you wake up feeling really good. You have energy
and think the world's a lovely place. What did you eat yesterday? Was McDonald's on your
schedule? Well, that's not all bad if you pick the right combination of foods. How about
their hamburger (not the quarter pounder with cheese) and a garden salad. Now if you
really must have their french fries try eating them with the Chunky Chicken Salad so you
won't feel deprived. The secret is trying to balance the calories, fat and carbos so that
you feel satisfied but still have a healthy meal. |

There are other important parts to this balance.
- Eat at about the same time each day.
- Try to eat about the same amount of food at each meal. (If
you wait until you are starving, you're going to eat too much and throw off that most
important metabolism.)
- Use non-fat foods when you can. Example: Non Fat Cottage
Cheese and Milk
- Use less salt or none at the table. Let your salt
requirements come naturally from your food.
- Don't overeat. You know when you have had enough. If you
have satisfied your hunger and there is food left on your plate, save it for a snack
either later or the next day. (Microwaves are wonderful for leftovers.)
- Save your sugar calories for that really wonderful dessert
you want to eat every so often
and even then
don't gorge! If you are used to a
little sweet something after dinner buy low fat cookies and have no more than two with a
glass of non fat milk, coffee or tea. Non fat ice cream is also a good choice - small
portions, please.
